Genesis 21:8-21 “A Father’s Love” Sarah wants Ishmael and Hagar GONE! Abraham is torn because he loves BOTH of his sons. Still, he trusts in the Heavenly Father’s love which will protect and bless even those who are cast out. Abraham does his best to love Ishmael and provide for Hagar, but ultimately it is God who hears Hagar (she is the first to name God) and blesses as only a Father can. As great as a father’s love can be, how much greater is our Father’s love for us (for it rescues/blesses even those who are cast out—similar to prodigal son and the son who stayed)! God seeks out the lost/outcast so he might rescue them; are we doing the same?
